New page

Kumiya loves and plays Shamisen, a traditional Japanese instrument that might be described as a
three stringed guitar played with a spatula for applying plaster. Kumiya enjoys Japanese music
enough that she hosts Japanese Lounge Night every month at The Pink Cow.
Over the past year, I've always enjoyed attending the events, have tried playing shakuhachi (wooden
flute), and generally just been a happy smiling member of the audience, loving to see Kumiya and her
great smile on stage.

Monday 22 March 2010 was the first anniversary celebration of Japanese Lounge Night, and I was so
set on going that I skipped I-group to do it. Kumiya was there early setting up when
Emiko and I arrived (we had just attended the first Yogasan Yoga Retreat). Emiko gave Kumiya a big bunch of
flowers. Kumiya received at least three bunches of flowers that evening (but Emiko's was the
biggest). She told me she loves flower arrangement as well, so the flowers are perfect!
